Acne Scarring Treatment Through ReCell Therapy

What is Acne?

Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous, characterized by the comedo (primary lesion), macules, papules, pustules and (at times) cysts and scars. Acne is a disorder of the sebaceous gland technically known as Retention Hyperkeratosis.

The chain of events that lead to acne:

1. At puberty the body starts producing testosterone
2. An enzyme in the skin changes testosterone to dihydrotestosterone
3. Dihydrotestosterone stimulate the sebaceous glands to begin the production of sebum
4. Sebum sets off Retention Hyperkeratosis in the acne-defective follicle.
Peak acne years are 14-17 in females and 16-19 in males. As many as 40% of females and 35% of males are affected by acne during these peak years. However with today's lifestyle, stress levels, and increased intake of medications, adult acne is certainly on the rise.

How does the Stem Cell Therapy Work?

It does so by harnessing the body's natural ability to regenerate and grow tissue, successfully recapturing the process that went into developing your skin as a baby. Doctor will take a small biopsy of the patient's own healthy skin, approximately the size of a postage stamp, from an area nearby the region to be treated.

The biopsy is placed into a processing unit that separates the healthy growing skin cells, which are then suspended in a liquid. This 'cell suspension' contains all of the skin cells necessary to promote healthy skin growth. This suspension contains only your own skin cells-there are no added chemicals or growth hormones- your body's natural regeneration processes provide all that is needed for the re-growth of healthy new skin.

The area to be treated is prepared using laser resurfacing to remove the aged, damaged or discoloured skin. Your healthy re-activated skin cells in the cell suspension are then sprayed over the prepared area. The entire process takes only about 60 minutes to complete.

The cells in the sprayed suspension rapidly multiply, spread across the prepared area and grow to form your new skin in 5-7 days. During this time the treated area will be protected with a special dressing. The results will manifest itself over the next few weeks to month and will continue to show improvement for the next 12 months.

Does the treatment hurt?

As the Stem cell is a minimally invasive procedure, your Doctor will administer the appropriate anesthesia. In most cases, there is only minor discomfort during the procedure and the healing process.

Aftercare

Once the patient has completed their procedure there will normally be a mandatory follow up appointment with the doctor. The doctor will guide thereafter further appointments on a monthly basis.
