A TV in your bedroom

It is amazing the number of people who long for a television in their bedroom. I must admit I was one such person 20 years ago. I thought nothing could be better than lying in bed watching my favourite programmes. As someone who likes to go to bed fairly early I would often miss programmes if they started late – I thought 10 o’clock was bed time! So I would invest in a TV for my bedroom and I would be able to watch into the wee small hours and if I fell asleep so what! I would also be extra warm under the bed clothes, with a hot water bottle to keep me extra cosy.

I duly bought a little portable TV, all that was really on offer at the time. The bedroom was quite small so the TV had to sit on top of an existing chest of drawers. I would have been in heaven, you would think. Well quite the opposite in fact. The screen was so small I had to struggle to see the picture. Also the height was all wrong. I was looking across and down and there was no way that I could get comfortable, no matter what I tried. I tried sitting up, lying on my side, lying flat, boosting with pillows – all to no avail. After a few weeks the set went up into the attic, where it has stayed ever since.

Fast forward 20 years and I am ready to have another go, for all the same reasons. Fortunately things have moved on and my viewing experience will be enhanced by a simple wall bracket. I have done my homework and know my options. I can have the set mounted on the wall in a fixed position with a fixed wall bracket. This is a bit restricting so I could go for a tilting wall bracket which will allow me to angle the set so that I can see it from my bed. Even better would be a cantilever mounted bracket where I have the ability to pull the arm out from the wall and to position it where it suits me. The set then fits snugly back into the wall.

I have made my decision and it is to be a cantilever bracket which also has yet another option, corner fitting and tilt as well. The new TV will be going in the corner above my dressing table and I cannot wait to try it out. I do not see this TV set ending up on its own in the attic.
